Introductory Flights

Don't know if you want to learn to fly? What better way to find out than to take your first lesson? This way you'll take the controls and see what flying a small airplane is really all about. An introductory flight usually consists of some ground discussion, including a discussion of what you are looking for in the flight and what are your long-term goals.  We'll go over a description of basic airplane controls and systems and conduct a pre-flight inspection of the airplane. This is followed by a short flight to introduce you to flying, including: taxiing, takeoff, climbing to altitude, turns, straight and level flight, descents, and finally landing.

Training for a Private Pilot License

The private pilot license allows you to operate a small single engine aircraft and carry passengers. The training usually takes place one-on-one with an instructor.   You will learn:
  • How to takeoff and land at a wide variety of airports, ranging from busy airports like Oakland International to tiny municipal airports
  • How to navigate, both by looking out the window and using advanced electronic equipment
  • How to communicate with Air Traffic Control
  • How to handle emergencies
  • All relevant federal regulations
  • How to obtain weather briefings, interpret the weather and make safe weather decisions

Teaching Style

I became a flight instructor because I enjoy to teach. I am a strong believer in teaching material thoroughly. I teach beyond the FAA competency minimums, and hold students to a higher standard. If you are looking for the quickest, cheapest flight instruction I am probably not the instructor for you. On the other hand, if you want to become a skilled, competent and safe pilot I will be happy to help you achieve your goals. I believe in tailoring the instruction to the student. Everyone learns differently, and if the instruction is not changed accordingly the student won't learn as well (or at all!).

Instrument Training

Use a simulator for your instrument training.  You can learn about TAA - Technologically Advanced Aircraft which utilize avionics systems such as the Garmin 1000.
